The RACI accountability matrix at Work
RACI Connect defines clear roles and drives greater accountability in your organization.
RACI Connect defines clear roles and drives greater accountability in your organization.
RACI goes by many names - RACI Matrix, Responsibility Assignment Matrix, Accountability Matrix. It describes the participation by various roles in completing tasks or deliverables for a project or business process.
RACI is an acronym derived from the four key duties most typically used: responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed. It is used for clarifying and defining roles and responsibilities in cross-functional or departmental projects and processes. RACI is used in many business practices and is a simple concept to implement.
RACI Connect is in a proof-of-concept stage looking for future customers and feedback.
Search the Internet for “RACI” or “RACI Template” and you will find thousands of hits. You will find explanations of RACI and how to build one and lots of spreadsheet templates.
RACI is used by many organizations. However, the extent of its effectiveness is often short-lived. If the initial RACI matrix is not maintained, it loses value as people and tasks change.
RACI Connect will take the basic RACI Accountability Matrix beyond the spreadsheet. It will validate the RACI tasks by each employee daily to ensure they are accurate, current, and relevant. This foundation will drive other features.
Marcus Lemonis helps struggling companies get on the right track. In this CNBC clip from The Profit, Marcus is walking through roles and responsibilities with a new company. "How do we get to the finish line if nobody knows what anybody is doing?" As you can see, clarifying roles and identifying accountability is real work and it pays off. This is what RACI Connect does.
"I want to know what is expected of me. Please be clear. I want to be the best I can be! I finally have a good idea of what my job includes. I like being able to let my manager know what I like, what I am good at doing, and what is a target for improvement. In just a couple of minutes a day, I can track what I do with no tedious time capture. I can also see the details of different positions in the department to help me craft a career plan as I move up in the company."
"It is easy for me to see where I have gaps in my team and where I need to provide more education and training. My team members can easily assess themselves to find where my team is strong, where they need more training."
"As a new employee I was excited to see a curated list of tasks I need to master in the first few weeks and months as a new employee. My manager was able to allow me to work on my own much faster than I have experienced in other companies. The task list had tons of detail to help me learn how each was performed at my new home."
"When we are troubleshooting, it is helpful, to know who does what so we can connect with the right resources faster to help our customers. It is a faced-paced environment and in many cases, time is critical."
"I need to engage the right people for the duration of my project to make sure the deliverables are successful well after my project ends. I can easily see roles, job titles and skill levels across the department enabling me to assemble the best team."
"It is helpful to see across the department and quickly understand the nature of the work being performed. I long ago lost touch with who does what. When we need to post a new job, our job description content is current, accurate and relevant making job posts better to attract the best talent."
Task Tracking is not Time Tracking. Tasks are sampled in a process that takes an employee one to two minutes per day.
Employees can self assess their level of expertise on each task they perform. This gives employees a great way to share their expertise with their manager and team members if they choose to do so.
View levels of skills across the major functions performed. This provides a quick view to where additional training is needed or perhaps a new position.
Tasks are rolled up to provide content for the core of job descriptions and job postings. With regular validation of tasks, current, accurate and relevant details are now in the job description.
A validated task list is an excellent tool to facilitate onboarding and orientation of new employees. A RACI Connect task list connects to appropriate work instructions where they exist. This one feature may be the best solution to the timely process of onboarding new staff.
With validated RACI tasks, more modules are forthcoming to make RACI task data even more valuable for your organization.
